Volunteer Opportunities at Unity Park Station
Breakfast Service (Monday–Friday, shifts between 8am–10am)
Help create a safe, warm space for those rough sleeping in our city at the start of the day. You’ll serve drinks and breakfast during a time dedicated to those without shelter and our Winter Night Shelter guests.
Community Lunch (Monday & Thursday, shifts between 9.30am–1pm)
Support our vital community space by preparing and serving food and drinks. This is a lively time at Unity Park Station, filled with volunteers and guests, offering a warm, welcoming environment where people can enjoy a hot meal and access welfare support.
Reception Support (Monday–Friday, shifts between 7.45am – 12.45pm)
Be the first friendly face our guests see when they arrive. Your role will include signing in guests, directing new arrivals to our welfare team, and managing access to essential services like laundry and showers—helping guests maintain their dignity.
Evening Café & Guest Interaction (Monday–Sunday, shifts between 4.45pm–7.30pm)
Join our evening team to offer guests a warm welcome, serve drinks, snacks, and an evening meal. You'll also have the chance to engage with our guests, providing companionship and support.
Weekend Locker Attendant (Saturday & Sunday, 7.45am–8.30am)
Our free lockers give guests a secure space to store important documents and personal belongings. This vital service requires just 45 minutes of your time, offering a small but significant way to support our guests at the weekend. During your time supporting our guests you will make hot drinks and provide the guests with the keys to their lockers.
Volunteer Cleaners at Unity Park Station (Monday to Friday, shifts available between 1–4 pm)
Each week, hundreds of guests rely on our day services. With so many people passing through, we need a dedicated team of volunteers to help keep our communal areas clean and hygienic. Your time and effort will contribute to providing a safe, welcoming environment for our guests to access the support they need.
We have cleaning opportunities every afternoon from Monday to Friday, starting from just one hour a week. You can also choose to clean areas of the building that best suit you.
Volunteer Opportunities at Our Winter Night Shelter Venues
Our Winter Night Shelters operate from November to April across eight venues in Milton Keynes, providing up to 15 guests with a safe, warm place to sleep. These roles are an opportunity to support those experiencing homelessness through the coldest months of the year.
Evening Lead Cook (5.30pm–8.30pm): Plan meals, purchase ingredients (we fund the cost), and lead the kitchen team in preparing the evening meal.
Evening Kitchen Team (5.30pm–8.30pm): Assist the Lead Cook with food preparation, kitchen cleaning, serving meals, and washing up.
Evening Set-Up & Guest Interaction (6pm–10pm): Our evening service within the venue is a fantastic opportunity to get to know our guests and make them feel cared for and valued. You will help set up sleeping and dining areas before the guests arrive. Once the guests arrive you will provide a warm welcome and help make new guests feel safe, signposting them to key areas of the venue. During the evening volunteers share a meal with the guests and have opportunities to listen, support and join in with activities such as board games, table tennis or watching TV.
Night Duty (9.45pm–7am): Work in pairs to ensure guest safety overnight. Shifts are usually quiet, allowing time to read, relax, or study while being available if needed.
Morning Kitchen (6.30am–8.30am): Prepare and serve breakfast for the guests before they leave the venue for the day.
Morning Set-Down (6.30am–8.30am): Pack away bedding, clean and tidy the space, and ensure the venue is ready for the next use.
